Remediating and Preventing Flood Damage in Lake Zurich

The drain pipe running down the side of your house needs to be attached to the house and free of debris. Contact SERVPRO if a storm damaged your home.

Repairing Damage After a Storm Can Often Prevent Future Water From Entering the Home

Storms and storm flooding near Lake Zurich have been much more commonplace this last year. The actual weather event ends fairly quickly, but there have been more of them, and that means more water left behind in homes all around our area.

Quickly restoring Lake Zurich flood damage is important because each storm works its way into the home a little farther than the last one. SERVPRO knows that if floodwater is allowed to collect where it should not, even the foundation can be at risk.

If the foundation integrity is suspect, our response team begins with an inspection of the home. We can check every wall for seeps and leaks, paying particular attention to where the walls meet the concrete floor. If we find any, technicians fill them with a hydraulic cement compound and cover each wall with masonry cement.

The next step is to seal the outside of the foundation walls. If the homeowner authorizes it, SERVPRO can dig out and expose the exterior walls down to the foundation pad. We clean the walls and then seal them. We can do this by covering each of them with a thick, liquid rubber.

Now that the home is secure, we look at what is possible to prevent this and other types of flood damage from happening again. Much of the damage in our area happens not when lakes or creeks crest, but instead when a particularly violent storm damages the rain gutters and drains. Once that happens, water travels down walls and under roofs.

To protect each home, we can reconnect gutter sections and drains that the storm separated. This task usually means replacing missing bolts and reattaching pieces that winds pulled away from the eaves of the home. Technicians can also reconnect and seal drain pipes. They can also examine to see if the drains are secured to the walls and tighten restraining straps to keep them in place.

Protecting your home from flooding requires a quick response to seal your home from damage and preventive maintenance to direct stormwater away from it. SERVPRO of Buffalo Grove / Lake Zurich has protected homes in our area for almost thirty years and can do the same for you. Call us today to set up a visit at (847) 279-1940.
