Hardwood Floor Water Damage Recovery In Buffalo Grove

Your Buffalo Grove home’s floors are especially vulnerable to a water loss. Plumbing breaks, appliance malfunctions, or heavy rains blowing through open windows or a screen door are just a sampling of the events that can lead to water soaking into your floor coverings and the floors themselves. Permanent damage mars their appearance and weakens their structural integrity. Our crews are highly-qualified to respond to the harm a water loss causes to residential hardwood floors.

When your Buffalo Grove home experiences water damage, we strive to be on-site as soon as possible. Speedy removal of the water from the affected areas is the key to a successful outcome. Our crews are Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC)-trained as Water Damage Restoration Technicians (WDT), familiar with all aspects of ridding your floors of excess water rapidly and safely.

The planks in a hardwood floor install over at least one other layer of subflooring. SERVPRO technicians know that extracting moisture from all the layers is crucial. If a subfloor retains excessive moisture, it continuously saturates the top planks causing the surface of the floor to distort. Cupping, where the edges of each board swell up leaving a depression in the center, and crowning, where the center of each board rises, can both occur when water is absorbed and remains in the fibers of the wood. Buckling happens when the top layer of planks is left wet for extended periods; the top layer completely detaches from the subfloor.

To avoid these severe problems, SERVPRO first uses pumps and wanded extractors to remove as much of the standing water as possible. Then we employ a negative air pressure system to pull out the moisture that drained into sublayers. After using thermal imaging and moisture meters to detect where the water collected, our crews seal floor mats on the surface of the hardwood. The mats connect via hoses to equipment that exerts suctioning action, forcing the excess water out for disposal. We move and reseal the mats as the water exits, regularly checking for moisture levels to return to a normal level for your home.
