However, the southern region is part of the 8th Congressional District.

Learning More About Buffalo Grove, Illinois, History

New Englanders had established the first farms within the Buffalo Grove area. After that, Melchior Raupp and German travelers arrived in the 1840s. Farmers throughout this region would take their harvests down miles of dirt roads to get them to Chicago.

The German settlers were mostly made up of Roman Catholics, who also raised $300 while donating seven acres of land that went to building St. Mary's church back in 1852. Unfortunately, the church was destroyed due to arson a few years later. St. Mary's was then rebuilt on Lake-Cook County Road and Buffalo Grove Road back in 1899. In the 1980s, several additions helped to enlarge the original structure to what it is today.

During the 1930s, automobile access improved due to the addition of Dundee Road, which was the first road made of concrete in Northern Illinois. Further development ensued in 1957 as a builder named Al Frank procured a hundred acres of farming land. He started to build numerous ranch-style homes, generally designed without basements.
